Reading
Please see below information about the importance of regular reading, alongside a link to a list of recommended reads for Year 6 pupils.
We encourage pupils to read at home at least five times a week, to an adult if possible.
In Year 6, we do recognise that more often pupils may prefer read to themselves, but we would encourage parents/carers to engage in conversation about the texts they are reading, using the example questions which are attached at the front of reading records, to ensure they have a good understanding of what they read.
We also encourage Year 6 to vary their reading diet through engaging in different genres, fiction and non-fiction.
Pupils are asked to have their reading records in school every day, so that they are able to record their daily reading - we will also take this opportunity to share when we have guided reading sessions by noting it in each child's record, as well as weekly spelling dictation scores.
